Ivo Andric

He was 50 years ago, the Nobel Prize for Literature, and the great Bosnian writer was born in 1892 in Travnik. From 1921 he was a diplomat for the new Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, later Kingdom of Yugoslavia. In 1924 he graduated as Doctor of Philosophy in Graz. It was Yugoslavia's ambassador in Berlin, where he was then interned in 1940 by the Nazis and in 1941 released to Belgrade.
He was later received President of the Yugoslav and Serbian Writers' Association, member of the Yugoslav parliament and 50 years ago, in 1961, the Nobel Prize for Literature. On 13 March 1975 the poet died in Belgrade.
